There is no doubt Ted Cruz is an American citizen. But the Constitution mandates that only a natural born citizen is eligible to be president.
In order to be a natural born citizen, you must be born on sovereign American soil to American parents. Had Cruz been born on a military base or in an embassy, he would be a natural born citizen. He wasn’t. Therefore, he is ineligible.
That’s unfortunate because I think Cruz champions limited government more than most Republicans. But the Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land. And that is the deciding factor, whether we like it or not.
Our fidelity to the Constitution even when it’s inconvenient is more important than using the Constitution as a truncheon to bludgeon liberals with. We’ve got to be consistent, don’t we?
